Philosophy and Rationale of Treatment
Your health depends on three main interdependent factors. By changing any of all of these you can achieve what is possible for you.
1. Thought and Emotion
Thoughts lead to feelings lead to actions. Choose your thoughts wisely. I help you indentify limiting thought patterns that may be holding you back from achieving your health goals. Replace limiting thoughts and beliefs with attainable goals and behaviours that help catalyse positive change for you.
Too much, too little, of good things, or bad, profoundly affect the way our body and mind works. A few simple changes to what you put in your mouth each day make a big difference. Most of us need to loose weight and by trying different strategies that suit your lifestyle it can be easier than you think.
3. Movement and Training
If you don’t use it you lose it. With patience and the right training it’s never too late to improve. To do this one has to overcome dysfunction and injury. Various techniques can be used to help to do this so that you have a chance to reach your fitness goals.
From a public health perspective I support the Immunise Australia Program. The benefits outweigh the risks and I remember as a child in the 60’s seeing the effects of Polio and other serious chilhood diseases. Some would not agree with this view and so I understand that everyone has a personal choice for their own family.
The Vertebral Subluxation Complex (Subluxation)
Sorry, but due to lack of evidence, both personal and in the literature I don’t support the traditional Chiropractic paradigm. A summary can be found here.
The traditional Chiropractic paradigm is that subluxations block the body’s organising innate intelligence and cause disease. By performing specific spinal manipulative therapy called ‘adjustments’ the organising power of innate intelligence can therefore cure various disease.
I prefer to focus on proven health promoters like right thinking, eating, activities and exercise. I use the vast array of therapeutic interventions available in physical therapy and support the judicious use medicines and working with Medical Practitioners, Surgeons, Physiotherapists and other health providers to bring about the best patient outcomes.
I started out as a Hospital trained Nurse from 1979 – 85. In 1981 I began learning Natural Therapies including Swedish, Remedial & Chinese Massage at the Naturecare College in Sydney. Since then I have always been evolved in providing physical therapy in various settings.
During my training I recognized a need and created the Fleximan manipulation manikin for use by students of spinal manipulation I published research work on the device.
After graduating in 1995 moved to the Sunshine coast where I worked in a number of Chiropractic Clinics.
I taught Anatomy and Physiology from 2000 to Massage students here on the Sunshine Coast at the Unity School of Healing until the School closed in 2014
In 2005 I attended a course in Medical Acupuncture from visiting Chinese Professor Shouzhong Ren. I was lucky to spend some additional clinical time with a Japanese Trained Acupuncturist Helen Hays who showed me how effective gentle needling could be. I use dry needling and fire cupping regularly in the clinic.
In 2006 I opened my home based clinic that allows me to more fully explore the many and diverse techniques I have studied and applied over the past 30 years.
In 2009 I updated my Massage Qualification to A Certificate IV in Massage Therapy Practice. Then in 2010 I upgraded to a Diploma of Remedial Massage and began teaching varous subjects including Sports Massage at Aminya Natural Therapies Academy.
