Yes I’m still around

Category : News

Last week someone I hadn’t seen for a year or two contacted me and asked if I was still practicing. It’s true the last time I wrote was 2013. There have been a few ups and downs since then but I do continue to practice Chiropractic, physical therapy and exercise prescription. Give me call.

Your Health depends on 3 Main Things

1. Thought and Emotion

Thoughts lead to feelings lead to actions. Choose your thoughts wisely.

2. Nutrition

Too much, too little, of good things, or bad, profoundly affect the way our body and mind works.

3. Movement and Training

If you don’t use it you lose it. With patience and the right training it’s never too late to improve.

Call or text me on 0458466849 to make an appointment.

Tim Young chiro winter 10km swim?

Category : Uncategorized

Screen-shot-2013-06-02-at-7.04.01-AMFor the last two years my wife Sharon and I have participated in the Mudjimba Island Charity Swim from Mudjimba beach around the island to Mooloolaba Beach. Why would we want to swim 10km in the ocean? One reason is to raise funds for the Nambour and Currimundi Special Schools. Here ‘developmentally delayed’ and ‘special’ kids are given a really good chance at being the best they can be in society, rather than institutionalized which was the old way of dealing with kids that are born ‘different’.

Another reason is to to push ourselves personally by the experience of swimming some distance off shore. Sharon swam the 10 km 3 hour event herself last year. Here she is arriving at Mooloolaba Beach with her paddler Doug. The paddler keeps their swimmer on the correct heading toward the finish. The swimmer keeps their eye on the paddler. Together they get there!

Most swimmers, like me, participate in a team. Our team for 2012 swam various distances from 4 km to 200 meters. So who worked the hardest? The person who did 4km? Or was it the one who swam 200m? They overcame their chokingly tight wet suit, fear of a cold shark infested ocean and jumped in anyway, swimming untilthey turned blue and vomited! Which one got the most out of this event?   The point is this; as we grow and age what are we prepared to do to keep active, mobile and enjoying all the capacity our body has to offer? Best wishes for winter – Tim (The clinic is closed from Friday June 6th until Sat June 17th)

Autumn 2013

Category : Uncategorized

Screen-shot-2013-05-02-at-5.50.42-AM-150x150Its great to again see a tranquil ocean, carefully bringing back the sand that was ripped out by the January storms. Then that’s what nature does – its builds up and wares down. The question will always be what is the stronger – the building up or the waring down? Hopefully we all take the time we need to build ourselves up to be what we can for our stage of life. Diet, exercise and a positive mental attitude. When it comes to exercise we can only perform to our weakest link – then the chair starts to wobble! Getting discomfort from exercise does nothing for a positive mental attitude either. Don’t let a downward spiral get the better of you. Then, if you want Screen-shot-2013-05-02-at-5.40.19-AM-150x150something to hold you back – by all means … “live with it”! Did you know that Chiropractors and Physiotherapists are skilled in the diagnosis and treatment of musculo-skeletal disorders and if it looks like it needs referral to a GP for further investigation then that’s what we do – refer you! I’m saying this to myself …. Am doing what I can to feel great? – well done! If I’m not – what’s stopping me? Every Blessing for this wonderful time of year –  Tim

As Required Treatment

Category : Uncategorized

Screen-shot-2013-02-13-at-2.30.10-PM-150x150Hello, Every one needs a bit of help to feel good now and again! Thank you for visiting my clinic in the past and know that not only do I appreciate your business but I really like the opportunity to help. Feel the very best you can! One of the most the most satisfying things about being human is to help another person out. How can I help you? Call me on 04 5846 6849 or 07 5450 7999 to discuss Your body and mind have the capacity to feel really good most of the time! When you have pain, discomfort or stress there is usually something that can be done about it – if your willing? Let’s think about common types of pain or discomfort: the discomfort (and sometimes pain) of doing stuff; and injury. Doing stuff: That could be exercise or activities that push your body that result in Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness or DOMS. This is generally starts 24 – 48 hours after the activity and is a ache, stiffness or sometimes painful. DOMS is a good thing f not too severe and may last a day to a few days. Athletes use massage to help relieve DOMS Screen-shot-2013-02-27-at-7.15.46-AM-150x150and enhance its effect which strengthen the body. The rule of thumb with DOMS it it should be gone after a few days. Injury: There are 3 main types: Acute, overuse and re-injuries. April Johnson has written a great article on this found here. The key point here is to be aware of the difference between DOMS and injury. In short use ice in the first 24-48 hours after injury and seek some treatment to reduce the risk of the injury becoming an ongoing problem! Yours in health Tim

The Clinic is Open

Category : Uncategorized

The clinic remains at my home which means your appointment can still include chiropractic and massage and be at a reasonable cost. Extras health fund rebates apply for you if you have that insurance. To discuss or book an appointment and or refer a friend use m 04 5846 6849 or p 5450 7999. The last few years I have been teaching massage at Aminya college here on the Sunshine Coast.

This has really refreshed and inspired my tendency to use massage during your treatments. Also in 2011 I was fortunate to attend a Lomi Lomi (also know as Kahuna or Hawaiian massage) course. It focuses on moving energy around your body to create a feeling of relaxation yet is energizing at the same time. This can be incorporated into your Chiropractic treatment to really intensify the benefits of both. Exercise! The benefits of regular exercise are well known.

I’ve got to say that I can really feel that first hand especially now I am into my 5th decade! Oh dear – I hate to bring age into the equation –  but really it does make a difference. To get exercise done its about doing stuff that you enjoy and  within your capacity – slowly at first. Then looking  for the improvements that come over the weeks and months of regular training. By the way, a little help during this period to limber up and deal with the extra strain on your body is invaluable to hasten the benefits of exercise. The last few years working in with personal trainers has been a real revelation.  There are some really easy little things to do (exercises) that really help to strengthen the human body and reduce pain. Most only take a few minutes a day and I’m happy to share these with you. Every blessing – Tim  m 0458466849 to discuss your needs

Water water everywhere but not a drop to drink

Category : Uncategorized

Drink good pure water: Sometimes living in the modern world is like being at sea in a lifeboat. Its that we are surrounded by sea water but we are faced with a plethora of processed drinkable fluids – coffee, tea, carbonated soda drinks, beverages containing alcohol, “fruit” juice drinks and tap water. In moderation perhaps these aren’t so bad but lets think about this for a minute. How much good clean pure water do you drink compared to processed fluids? A normal healthy person needs a couple of liters per day of good clean water!

Just try having a glass of room temperature water every time you boil the kettle, or open the fridge for a drink and see how you feel after a week of doing this. If you cant stand the taste of tap water or are concerned about the additives like chlorine – then consider getting a filter like those available from our friends at http://www.cooeewater.com.au.

Its not changing much just have a water before you drink anything else, its easy. And see how you feel after a week.

BIG THANK YOU

Category : News

I just wanted to also say a BIG THANK YOU to you all for having used my services in the past!
You probably already know I’m not very good at ‘marketing’ as such and pretty much all of my business comes from word of mouth referral. Thanks so much for that.
I do genuinely like to fix people and give you the skills to become stronger to prevent recurring problems!
Heres a big tip:
Your health is improved and maintained in three main ways:
1. Thoughts/feelings/actions – a positive mental attitude and belief in yourself, your loved ones, humanity, and a nurturing Greater Power
2. Chemical – avoiding poisons, pure water, clean air and feeding yourself a good diet including the right amount of protein, carbohydrates, good fats and vitamins
and
3. Physical – Exercise including strength, flexibility, and cardiovascular fitness. Getting rid of pain, discomfort and biomechanics dysfunction really helps achieve this along with burning any of those extra calories that, if your like me, we tend to consume!
All the best and I look forward to seeing you again
Yours in health
Tim
